Purpose and goal
The project ´Antibacterial fiber-new applications´ took additional initiatives to further develop the eco-friendly antibacterial technology previously developed at KTH in order to get closer to a commercial product. This has been partly been achieved by expanding contacts with companies and through further development of the technology. This has led to that several products are under development at lab-scale today. The project received much media attention nationally and internationally, through e.g. KTH & Co., which led to many new contacts with companies.
Results and expected effects
The project has led to several short and long term partnerships with companies in which the antibacterial technology is tested on commercial products. The modification technique was found to give good effect on many types of materials and products, including products made on synthetic fibers, which had not previously been tested. Currently, several projects are ongoing and have thus continued after the Vinnova project ended. The results so far are positive, which is why research and development hope to continue.
Approach and implementation
The project has been conducted at KTH and partial in collaboration with companies. Given the attention given the project both nationally and internationally, more collaborations would probably have been possible with more resources. The project has been divided into commercialization activities and development activities. Work on the commercialization affected the experimental activities, whith valuable input from the companies. For assistance with commercialization KTH Innovation has been engaged, who provided valuable assistance with e.g. market analysis.
