Purpose and goal

AIDA´s overall objective is to put AI to use in healthcare within image diagnostics. AIDA more than fulfilled its objective and purposes: AIDA has become an active community with more than 50 organizations that gather most of the people who work with developing diagnostic imaging in Sweden. AIDA has included 26 sub-projects that developed AI innovations relevant for clinical use. AIDA has accelerated introduction into care thanks to competence development and support for clinical evaluations. AIDA has contributed to increased competitiveness for Swedish companies in the area.

Expected results and effects

AIDA´s objective is to increase efficiency and precision in care thanks to AI solutions in image diagnostics. Although technical AI performance was established at AIDA´s inception, the level of maturity was otherwise low. AIDA has been a strong national force for accelerating maturity, both in healthcare, industry and academia. The effect is that healthcare is now highly ready to launch improvements, and there are several pilot examples that show benefits in practice. AIDA has also strengthened Swedish research with its data hub and linked European initiatives.

Planned approach and implementation

AIDA chose to organize itself as an arena that addresses innovating “grassroot” individuals in healthcare, academia and industry. The arena activities have addressed the obstacles that these people face in their everyday work and it has proven very rewarding to gather across sector boundaries around the same professional special interest. AIDA has actively worked on adjusting plans afterwards and has also succeeded in expanding the scope thanks to linked national and international funding, such as the EU project BigPicture.
