Important results from the project

The aim is to be able to offer an environmentally friendly ink for the textile and fashion industry. The project goal was to create a blue algae based ink and present a proof of concept on textile and a business model for Mounid AB. The project has verified that it is possible to use the selected algae with the presumed method for technically being able to apply it on textiles, such proof of concept remains to be done. Mounid has validated customer needs, IP assets and the potential from suppliers, business model is in progress.

Expected long term effects

The result from the R&D has led us to a validation of the concept which the algae ink is based on. We gained valuable knowledge and insight of the algae pigment itself as well as special knowledge of how it works in the algae ink formulation. Therefore, Mounid has moved forward in the patent process. Mounid has presented the business idea with positive response and seen cross-industry interest from stakeholders. Algae producers in Europe are expected to grow which gives potential for the business.

Approach and implementation

The product and business development ran parallel during the project. RISE and Mounid made milestones and had meetings to evaluate fulfillments of goals and the direction of the project. The R&D results were communicated to project partners for their influence. Mounid presented the results for stakeholders and could begin to verify the business idea and the business model. At the turn of the year, we re-prioritized the working plan, Mounid decided it most appropriate to invest in going further with the patent process.
