Purpose and goal

WoodEye is an advanced world-leading vision system used in wood industries for automatic optimization and sorting of wood. Today, there are hundreds of WoodEye scanners active who process millions of boards daily. With our huge access to recorded images of boards and our and our customers´ big knowledge of wood, we will develop an AI that can automatically detect defects in wood. This will reduce the complexity of our system, making it easier for our employees as well as for all of our thousands of operators around the world working with our scanner.

Expected results and effects

* Improved defect detection will reduce unnecessary waste in the timber industry * Improvement of competence around AI within the company WoodEye * Newly developed AI that will be possible to integrate into a WoodEye scanner * The AI will soon be commercially available to the wood industry after the project * Reduced requirement for technically trained personnel for the wood industry

Planned approach and implementation

We will use the large number of high quality images of boards scanned with a WoodEye scanner which the company has access to. These images will be labeled using a program that will be developed within the project. All this data will then be used to train a network to classify defects in the images.
