Agenda project systems-of-systems

Reference number
Coordinator SICS SWEDISH ICT AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration December 2014 - June 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The agenda project system-of-systems (SoS) aimed at creating a basis for successful development of high quality SoS in Sweden, and to identify actions required to reach that. The project has mapped the current situation and needs in industry, society, and academia, and identified the potential for border-crossing innovation through SoS. The results have been documented in an agenda.

Results and expected effects

The main result of the project is the agenda document. The main recommendation is that Sweden should have a world leading capability to rapidly develop trustworthy SoS. This is important since the digitization and reindustrialization requires large needs of competence in the area. Many of the actions are targeted towards research and education, and it is proposed to form a center-of-centers to coordinate the activities throughout the country. This needs to be combined with societal initiatives and meeting places, including flagship projects based on the triple helix model.

Approach and implementation

The work in the project has been carried out as a series of workshops, involving about 40 persons in total. The purpose of the workshops has been to map the area, from an industrial, societal, and academic perspective. This has been complemented with studies of the research literature to establish the international frontier, and with surveys to Swedish universities, institutes, and funding agencies, to get an overview of Swedish research in the field.
