Project duration December 2014 - October 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the Innovation Agenda is to make clear and emphasize the great growth potential that exists within the global sports industry and point out some strategic areas where Sweden has the opportunity to become an international player. Our goal is that Sweden should be a pioneer in the creation of technology-based product, service and system innovations within the sports sector, and have a digitized sports industry at the forefront of technological development that delivers measurable value to both society, industry, science and the sports associations.

Results and expected effects

We recommend four initiatives: A national independent collaboration platform; Increased efforts within digitization and improved digital infrastructure; Multidisciplinary research and targeted innovation support; Make use of international exposure in connection with events. The overall impact of the objectives is to create new technology-based products and systems that are competitive on a global level, new businesses and increased employment, and to ensure that Sweden is a leading nation for sports innovation, within performance, events, and preventive public health.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in close collaboration between GIH and Swedish ICT. The Agenda´s content has been developed through a number of thematic workshops consisting of expert representatives from the project partners and their networks. In addition, we have carried out interviews, meetings and reviews. The text has been developed though an iterative process, in which all participating parties and referees have been able to contribute to and give feedback on the final outcome. Approximately 90 people from more than 50 different organizations have been involved.
