Project duration June 2015 - May 2018
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme SIP LIGHTer

Purpose and goal

The objective of the project was to industrialize a new method for efficient manufacturing o lightweight components in Aluminium. The possibility to industrially implement the technology within three years after project finish has been improved by the performed research. The evaluation of a selected demonstrator component shows that it is possible to use the technology and thereby reduce the weight by 40% in this case.

Expected results and effects

The project has produced results regarding: 1. Characterization and choice of sheet material. 2. Development of simulation technology. 3. Evaluation of the tribosystem. 4. The results from the above points have been verified in industrially relevant cases. 5. Future research needs have been clearly identified. After the project there are well working methods in place for characterization of the sheet material which are required for further development of the technology. Also, future research needs are well identified.

Planned approach and implementation

The project work has been organized in six work packages: 1. Application. 2. Material. 3. Forming process. 4. Product properties. 5. Dissemination. 6. Project management. In practice, the division of the work between the work packages has not been strict and focus for the research has shifted during the project. A lot of work, more than anticipated, was dedicated to the method development and materials testing.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
