Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 350 000
Project duration June 2015 - December 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goals of the project´s five activities were to visit SME:s, establish TRL-levels for the metals producing industry, spread knowledge regarding customer value creation to the businesses in the area, carry out a study on current, relevant nano-technology and building attractiveness for the metals producing industry by means of AM technology, respectively. The goal of the last activity was well above target - Naim Josefi´s 3D-printed Lady Gaga sho in steel has reached a broad and highly relevant audience. The SME visits were fewer than planned. The other activities landed on target.

Results and expected effects

The 3D-activity has already contributed to the metals producing industry´s soght for image as an industry for the future. The ability to discuss product development in TRL-terms will aid the industry in customer and partner collaborations. The seminars on customer value and SME contacts are expected to stimulate firms to further their business models and participate in the programme activities. The description of the nanotechnology state-of-the-art in the industry points at new possibilites for material and process development which might be revolutionary in the long term.

Approach and implementation

The activities have been carried out in a standalone fashion. What turned out to be more difficult than expected was to reach SME, in direct contacts as well as in the seminars on customer value creation. This has led to a new activity, where organisations with exisiting networks among SME are used as intermediates between the programme and SME:s.
