End-of-project report 2012-00938eng.pdf (pdf, 498 kB)

Purpose and goal

The project has developed verified functionality for force feedback as a step to meet the targets of heavy safe vehicles. This functionality has been used in the different experiments conducted in order to better understand the impact on human drivers. The functionality has thereafter been extended to support combined braking and steering, and where both actuator limitations and driver limitations are considered. The design and knowledge gained from this have led to fulfilment of the set scope.

Results and expected effects

The developed functionality has been put into future plans for the industrial partners and can thereby potentially be realised on the market. Main parts of the developed material have also been published in patent application, articles, licentiate thesis, and master theses. The project has also created internal and external awareness for the importance of lateral stability during automatic collision avoidance by braking, which has become standard on heavy commercial vehicles.

Approach and implementation

All partners have contributed to target and in accordance with the plan for the project. The execution of the project was reviewed both by an internal and an external group of acknowledged experts in the field of driver behaviour. This provided opportunities for discussion on direction and technical approach.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
