Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to test a new model, Innanförskapsakademin, which facilitates for newcomers and long-term unemployed to establish themselves in the local community and the labor market. The specific aim was that the participants after completing the program should have tools, knowledge, inspiration and networks that enhance their opportunities in the labor market, either as employees or entrepreneurs.

Expected results and effects

During the project, three rounds of internship was carried out by a total of 28 trainees and 25 tutors. A total of 19 people have found work or gone to further education. The project has received considerable attention for example at Almedalen, SABO´s Integration days in Gothenburg, SABO´s Real estate days in Stockholm, a seminar on `Immigration to job´ in Härnösand, `Sweden Together´ conference in Östersund, TEDx in Östersund, regional and local real estate network, etc. A result is also that other real estate companies have showed interest in the Academy and initiated similar programs.

Planned approach and implementation

This was a joint project between Östersundshem, Skanska, the Swedish Migration Board, Arbetsförmedlingen and Mid Sweden University. Participants in the program, which were newly arrived and unemployed youth, was introduced to the labor market through tailored interventions where internship was combined with theory in terms of various training and other inclusive activities. Tutors from companies and other organizations have undergone training and participated in workshops. Three rounds of the program´s first stage, internship, have been completed with very good results.
