Purpose and goal

Through the project, course work has been carried out in collaboration with industrial partners at AstaZero with approximately 30 students at a time during 2017-2019. The objective of the project was to enable engineering students to get acquainted with both measuring equipment and test methods to verify vehicle dynamic models on the test track. The goal has been met well. Both test engineers and engineering students have expressed great appreciation for the coursework.

Expected results and effects

It is gratifying to see the engineering students working with measurement data from physical tests, which was the project´s main objective. However, the project has several unexpected effects, for example: the course labs have served as a neutral meeting place for industrial partners and engineering students have explained that they latter used the measurement data they received through the course lab in subsequent master thesis projects.

Planned approach and implementation

All course labs have been carried out in collaboration with the automotive industry. They have helped with cars and test drivers. The test carried out are steady state cornering, frequency response & avoidance maneuvering. Data from the cars is collected via the cars´ CAN network and the students analyzed the data during the day with the support of teachers & assistants. The execution works very well and the lab is appreciated by those involved. The first year, the students (with a valid driving license) were able to drive themselves, but this we wavered in 2018 which became a improvement.
