Important results from the project
The goal of this project was to create a platform through which actors in the sustainable built environment could influence and ultimately win funding from Horizon 2020. CHS (KTH) created a platform that takes a broad look at built environment issues by coordinating multiple Swedish strengths and contacts at an EU level within sustainable built environment. The result was an agenda for impact within Horizon 2020 and an application for a ´Steg B´ advocacy platform.
Expected long term effects
CHS (KTH) undertook an analysis of the Horizon 2020 and led a survey of Swedish resources and contacts in EU channels such as existing technology platforms. More than 20 organizations in the sustainable built environment participated in a national expert group. Three meetings were held over six months to develop the group´s agenda. Key players for European research and innovation capacities such as JPI Urban Europe participated to ensure the link to current and future project opportunities for Swedish actors. A working group was formed and agreed on a common agenda for future work.
Approach and implementation
Horizon 2020 addresses sustainable built environment from a systems perspective. Our work therefore stressed the integration between focus areas. Six key areas were identified: 1.Systems Intergration 2.Information Management and Industrial Processes 3.Renovation of Housing 4.Transport Infrasructure 5.Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities 6.Human Behaviour, Engagement and Implementation of a Sustainable Built Environment Sweden has a significant potential to affect Horizon 2020 in the Civil Affairs and a good opportunity to get an increased amount of EU funding.
