Important results from the project
SWIC is in Sweden developing a quite new system for sewage treatment. The system means that a production plant is created, where water is reused and valuable energy and nutrients are produced. This idea has been discussed and approved by Chinese partners. -Co-operation between SWIC and Chinese R&D organizations is strengthened. -We have developed a common R&D agenda to find a completely new solution for handling of municipal waste water. -A biogas project has started in Tianjin with several stake holders in both Tianjin and Sweden. -An exchange program has been implemented.
Expected long term effects
The project has reached more than the expected effects. In spite of a strongly reduced budget the goals have been well achieved. -Co-operation between SWIC and Chinese R&D organizations is strengthened. -We have developed a common R&D agenda to find a completely new solution for handling of municipal waste water. -A biogas project has started in Tianjin with several stake holders in both Tianjin (TAES, EPB, sewage treatment plants and the city) and Sweden (IVL, Scania, Malmbergs and Xylem Water Solutions). -An exchange program has been implemented.
Approach and implementation
We have in the direct contacts with the R&D partners developed common project ideas which in some cases already have started to be implemented. The analysis shows that Chinese R&D organizations acts as adviser to the government as well as implementer of big R&D programme. To be able to introduce the concept- a production facility -we must convince abut the system solution but also reach different organizational levels. In Tianjin we have reached best result meaning that sludge could be seen as a resource ( biogas) which can also increase the air quality if used as a fuel.
