Important results from the project

Well-functioning startup teams move faster from idea to commercialization and attract venture capital more readily. The team development program STEP (Startup Team Entrepreneurship Program) is based on research and startup-specific conditions. STEP forms new structures which can be disseminated within the innovation support system. Through research collaboration, STEP has strengthened the knowledge regarding startup teams and the national collaboration within the innovation support system. It also reached international publications via IASP.

Expected long term effects

STEP is a need-based team development program for startups. The program is based on research on entrepreneurship and psychology with the aim to support the development of high-performing and well-functioning entrepreneurial teams. Based on good evaluation results from startups, superusers and the initial results from the researchers, we can see that the program shows a positive effect. 22 business coaches from 12 incubators participated in STEP superuser training via SISP. Since 2017, about 100 startups and over 300 entrepreneurs have participated in the STEP program.

Approach and implementation

The goal of the program is to provide knowledge and insight of how the team can create the conditions for a well-functioning and high-performing startup team. The concept of the program is blended learning. Through need-based digital tools and a customized process based on research; the teams work on self-awareness, team insight and peer-to-peer learning events focusing on themes important for start-ups. The use of tools developed to meet the specific needs for the teams, have been utilized for tailor-made team development workshops that focus on the prioritized pains of each team.
