Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 000 000
Project duration April 2019 - March 2020
Status Completed
Venture Strengthening Sweden’s role in international standardization
Call Standardization in order to gain access to new markets

Purpose and goal

With two model materials, nanocellulose and graphene, the goal was to map how companies, academia and institutes work with standards in their operations and whether standards and standardization are used as tools and act as constraints or support. Furthermore, we want to see how SIS can, within its framework, facilitate SMEs to become involved in the development of international standards. The targets have been met. The survey is complete and SIS has the opportunity to offer nanotechnology companies to participate in the committee work at half the normal cost.

Expected results and effects

A working group for graphene has been formed under SIS The goal is that the working group is developing a strategy for Sweden´s work on standardization nationally and internationally. Recommendations to SIS: Strengthen committee work Strengthen internal cooperation between SIS committees A communication campaign aimed at SMEs (nanotechnology) A communication campaign aimed at academia and research institutes Create a clear strategy and roadmap for the work on standardization regarding nanotechnology and nanomaterials

Planned approach and implementation

Interviews have been conducted with companies in each area. In order to gain an international perspective, interviews with Nanotechnology Industries Association, and with the Chairman of the ISO Committee on Nanotechnology have been conducted. Two workshops have been held in Stockholm.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
