Important results from the project

Swedish Mining Innovations SME Network 2.0 strengthened knowledge exchange and addressed prioritized mining needs, supporting broader participation, collaboration, and faster innovation. In 2025, 9 innovation challenges generated 66 innovations; 30 were introduced to the mining ecosystem. Overall, 45% of SMEs were new to the mining industry, with an average of just over 7 innovations per challenge.

Expected long term effects

If there were to be a corresponding innovation arena for Swedish Metals & Minerals, it would in a value-creating way cross-fertilize the respective value chains, the one from the old Metallic Materials and the one from the old Swedish Mining Innovation, which would really strengthen the Swedish innovation cluster.

Approach and implementation

Further develop and refine innovation work in the mining industry with innovative Swedish SMEs and benefit the industry´s other actors. The main focus was to accelerate innovation capacity, develop business and strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, the companies were given the conditions to understand and meet the industry´s challenges to enable collaboration on innovation, product development and, in the long term, market introduction.
