Important results from the project
The purpose and goal of the project was to stimulate more creative making in schools and this has been accomplished by the development of a web service, skapa.how where students, teachers and principals can be inspired and easily share their creations via recepies. These recipes can be used in the classroom and at home, and can also be remixed into new recipes and spread further. The project also focused on how teachers can be involved in the process and how the work should be developed to take advantage of the benefits of the making in schools. The resulting web service is free and open to all.
Expected long term effects
Encouragement of making in schools through skapa.how has worked well. An easy to use web service was developed and presented orally at a large number of public events as well as in numerous academic and popular science publications. Through the active involvement of teachers and principals in the project, the importance of making in schools is highlighted in new ways and has inspired to new pedagogical and didactic approaches in the classroom. The strong link to entrepreneurial learning has also been highlighted in the project where pupils get to work with and realize their own ideas.
Approach and implementation
The project has worked by the principle ´release early, release often´ where technical progress has achieved through short iterations based on priorities made together with users continuously. A number of workshops have been organized to first capture the needs in the schools and then get direct feedback through focused meetings. This lightweight approach has worked very well. The resulting platform will continue to be open and free for all to use when the project concluded as it is difficult to commercialize the results in their present form.
