Important results from the project

The aim of the project is to develop, implement and investigate the use of a digital tool, ie pictorial support in person-centered care for children (PicPecc), to give children undergoing cancer treatment the opportunity for optimal symptom relief and an increased / maintained well-being.

Expected long term effects

Expected effects and results are that children should receive optimal symptom relief and an increased / maintained well-being during their cancer treatment. With the help of the newly developed app, the first studies will start already in December 2020 and this will take place at a hospital in Gothenburg and last for 5 weeks. In January 2021, the major studies will begin in a steady flow. Studies will be ongoing in several different countries, eg South Africa, Denmark, Iceland and several hospitals in Sweden. It is estimated that between 300-600 children will be included in these research

Approach and implementation

At the outset, I would like to say that such a large project is very difficult to estimate. Projects usually change along the way / development. We have also ended up in the middle of a pandemic that placed great demands on us. Our staff has been partially laid off, which has meant great challenges. We have had to use more people, located in different places in Sweden, which required a new way of working and became more time-consuming, which in turn affected our time estimation. The project has become much more expensive than what was planned from the beginning.
