Call Key Enabling Technologies for Biobased Products - joint call Sweden-Finland

Purpose and goal

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** OptiBark was a Swedish-Finnish collaboration project and was carried out in close collaboration with industrial parties representing various application areas. OptiBark has succeeded in its aim to (i) improve and optimize extraction and production methods previously validated on a laboratory scale and (ii) develop new innovative uses for bio-based chemicals and materials from bark that are primarily used as fuel in energy production. Thus, big steps towards a circular economy have been taken.

Expected results and effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** To phase out fossil materials and chemicals and replace them with bio-based ones. The results, including techno-economic analyses, show great potential for bark components from both conifers and birches as a basis for a circular bioeconomy.

Planned approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** Effective collaboration between different actors has created new, innovative opportunities. The project´s Swedish and Finnish parties have benefited from and complemented each other´s competences in developing new bio-based solutions.
