Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA
Call PiiA: Digitalization of industrial value chains, spring 2020

Purpose and goal

The goal was to develop an online technology for surface analysis with a focus on the amount and composition of rolling oils. Lab tests showed a sensitivity that meets the needs of about 20 mg of carbon / m2 and through installation in cutting plants, it has been shown that there are potential for industrial implementation.

Expected results and effects

The effects of the feasibility study are that there is now a foundation for showing that an industrial implementation is possible. To get there, the necessary modifications of the technology must be made, but the results obtained so far all indicate that it is possible to achieve.

Planned approach and implementation

The project started with a previously developed instrument for analysis of liquids. With relatively inexpensive components an upscaling of sensors are feasible. Both the light source and the optics for light collection has been adapted to the new application. The performance was examined in a lab environment at an industrial part and necessary changes were made to enable installation in an industrial process. Finally, the technology was tested at cutting plants where it can be applied as an extended final control before delivery.
