Purpose and goal

The MDH team has contributed significantly to the SafeCer project by research results, proof-of-concept studies and extension of industrial cases studies related to (1) Process models for co-certification, (2) Safety process lines, (3) Modelling of safety-oriented processes according to the required safety level. (4) Agile methodology in Safety critical system development, (5) Component model, safety properties and safety contracts, (6) Component related safety argumentation, (7) Parametric verification of timing , and application of results in a VCE case study.

Results and expected effects

We have disseminated our results in a large number of academic papers. The main impact though of the work is helping industry to adopt the state of the art methods as well as make their own contributions to state of the art. Two of the involved companies, VCE and AVL, have gone from a position of not building safety arguments to building safety cases for significant real systems and publishing their findings. Both companies have made significant financial investments in continuing this process by self-funding work beyond SafeCer as the project has convinced them of the cost benefit.
