Important results from the project
The project has developed knowledge about how makers´ activities, citizens engagement and co-production can play a role in future waste handling practices focusing on upcycling and waste reduction in urban context. Such knowledge has been developed through a coaching/collaborative learning process between the coordinator of the station, the project leader, decision makers within VASYD, the researcher and other actors closely involved in the process.
Expected long term effects
The project developed and tested a specific approach for the development of upcycling stations, which focuses on the integration of ecological and social sustainability concerns by working with makers´ activities and the engagement of local actors and citizens. The project resulted also in the experimentation with different formats for makers´ activities, the setting up of a permanent workshop within the station, and the development of a collaborative organizational model for the upcycling station.
Approach and implementation
The project integrated practical activities with ongoing evaluation and reflection with the support of the researcher. The practical activities have been experimenting with different activities and formats for makers activities, as well as with different collaborative constellations bringing together makers´ actors and local actors. The reflection part consisted in an ongoing evaluation and discussion among the researcher, the coordinator and the project leader. Moreover, ad-hoc collective reflection moment have been organized with all the actors involved in the station.
