Purpose and goal
The project is a feasibility study and will investigate the conditions for in-line detection and characterizing of surface defects along the process chain for stainless steel wire and strip using a number of selected measurement techniques and measurement strategies. The goal is to create knowledge and data to, in a subsequent full-scale project, develop and install selected sensors and measurement strategies, connect the process to a digital platform to collect, store and analyze data in real time and apply machine learning algorithms aiming at autonomous control of the process.
Expected results and effects
The goal is to have an answer on, whether selected sensors and measurement strategies will work in the targeted measurement points, with sufficient performance, limitations and conditions to be met, and costs associated with the introduction of current solutions. The result will be the basis for planning and deciding on a full-scale continuation project. Finally, the project will provide greater insight into what digitalization of the process to the aforementioned scope means and thus increase the ability to utilize technology and solutions in future projects.
