Project duration November 2018 - December 2019
Status Completed

Important results from the project

A total of 15 different batches from RSH Polymere have been evaluated according to material properties and chemical analyses. The properties has shown small variations between the batches, which is positive when producing at full scale. The chemical analysis hasn’t shown any traces of regulated chemicals according to, for instance REACH. The detection levels used for the analyses are far below the limits in, for example, REACH. The recycled material from RSH is used as packaging material for Skona toilet paper, the film is produced by Trioplast, packed by Essity and sold by ICA.

Expected long term effects

The material from RSH Polymere is used, already today, as packaging for Skona toilet paper. A foundation to increase the use of recycled material in other film applications, has also been laid. By the production of a co-extruded film, consisting of recycled material as the core, a step towards developing a plastic film for food contact with recycled material has been taken. There is already a new research project in this area. On top of this, the project acts as groundwork for standardisation, a big need in the plastic business.

Approach and implementation

Four physical meetings have been held within the project. Results review, planning and project related questions, as well as an opportunity to see film blowing at Trioplast, production and packaging of toilet paper at Essity, quality work and product evaluation at ICA as well as a review of lab and equipment at RISE IVF. The result was an increased understanding of respective business. In addition to project meetings, short Skype meetings were held every other week. Three articles have been published through Nordiske Medier, in the beginning, middle and after project end.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
