Cleantruck - extended evaluation

Reference number
Coordinator STOCKHOLMS KOMMUN - Miljöförvaltningen, Miljöbilar i Stockholm
Funding from Vinnova SEK 200 000
Project duration December 2012 - December 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to accelerate the introduction of trucks with clean technologies and demonstrate three types of clean trucks for city logistics, as well as nitrogen filled tires, liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) cooling aggregates and eco driving. The target was that the project would lead to visible results and reduce negative emissions through a reduction of 3 345 tonnes of CO2-eq. The project Clean Truck was a collaboration between the City of Stockholm, AGA and Q8 / IDS with external funding from Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and the EU LIFE +.

Results and expected effects

18 carriers bought 50 clean trucks (15 diesel ethanol ED95, 18 methane diesel, 17 electric hybrids). The project exceeded the target, during the years 2010-2014 the CO2-eq emissions were reduced with 3 400 tonnes. The effects on NOx and PM could not be calculated within the project. 4 tire dealers have equipment for filling tires with nitrogen. The experience is e.g. improved traction, increased lifetime of tires and improved fuel efficiency. There are 2 filling stations for LIC and 5 trucks with LIC aggregate. LIC gives more accurate cooling and the aggregates are noiseless.

Approach and implementation

Actions - Installation / operation of public filling station for ethanol ED95 - Installation / operation of public filling station for liquid and compressed biomethane - Two filling stations for liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) - Four filling stations for nitrogen in tyres - Grants for purchase of 50 clean trucks by 18 different haulage companies (15 diesel ethanol ED95, 18 methane diesel, 17 electric hybrid), and 5 units for LIC-cooling - Training and driver support for heavy eco-driving - Stakeholder dialogue - Dissemination - Monitoring and evaluation
