Building a climate change adaptation network for Horizon 2020

Purpose and goal

The purpose and aims of the project have largely been fulfilled. A network has been formed with the aim of promoting more Swedish projects within Horizon 2020, primarily by encouraging and facilitating applications to already existing calls, but also by influencing coming calls to some extent. Influencing work will at present primarily be done through existing platforms. Forming an influencing platform for climate change adaptation is deemed a step too far at this stage; stakeholders are not ready and it would not address the primary barriers for more Swedish projects in Horizon 2020.

Results and expected effects

The project has resulted in increased knowledge about opportunities in Horizon 2020, the information needs of Swedish stakeholders, how a work program is developed and how it can be influenced. This knowledge is disseminated to key stakeholders to facilitate applications. The project has improved the conditions for influencing work by mapping decision paths, participating Swedish stakeholders and gaps between these. The project has formed a network and developed suggestions for activites with the aim of influence as well as increasing the number of applications to existing calls.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out through web studies, telephone interviews, group discussions, workshops and seminars: - Mapping of funding opportunities in Horizon 2020 and additional programs - Identification of key stakeholders - businesses, research, authorities - Analysis of stakeholders w r t needs and obstacles for EU- finansing - Mapping of influencing structures in the EU and nationally - Discussing the needs of EU financing, the interest in forming an influencing network for adaptation and the design of such a network - Dissemination of gathered knowledge through seminars
