Important results from the project

The purpose of BibCap III has been to further the bibliometric devopments at the KTH Library, so support strategic analysis at Vinnova and KTH, as well as conduct scientometric research in relation to the project Making Universites Matter (MUM). The project has delivered in these areas, by improving the bibliometric infrastructure, by metod developments, analysis, as well as scientific publishing. The collaboration with MUM has unfortunately not been fully realized.

Expected long term effects

The project has delivered bibliometric analyses of universities, companies, strategic subject areas and research projects. These have both involved analysing collaboration patterns, identifying strong research environments and bibliometric comparisons of Swedish environments in an international context. The bibliometric infrastructure has also been improved, with e.g. more web applications for data access and new methods for analysis. The goal of all this is to improve the information that goes into Vinnova´s and KTH´s decision-making in various strategic issues.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out within KTH´s bibliometric group, mainly by two people, in collaboration with analysts at Vinnova, and those responsible for certain strategic subject areas at Vinnova. The steering group has had representation from both Vinnova and KTH, chaired by the vice-rector for research at KTH. Steering group meetings was held regularly during the project, and ongoing work has been planned for a number of months to six months in advance. Contacts with MUM has been held both at an overall level, mainly at the beginning of the project, and later with individual researchers.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
