Purpose and goal

The aim was that from a passenger perspective, evaluate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as a whole and the relationship between vehicle, stop / station and traveler. The increased range of services evaluated. The experience for the traveler is central. Prior knowledge says that factors such as frequency, travel time and price are key. The importance of design has been evaluated by several types of interview questions and through an initial design workshop with travelers. Interviews in buses in Karlstad, at Norrtälje line and Malmo Express shows that WTP and satisfaction rises significantly.

Results and expected effects

Exclusive design, comfort and Internet included in all new vehicles. Many people use the Internet even in urban bus services, often with their own connection. Increased customer satisfaction and increases in travel in Karlstad and at Norrtälje line indicates that the vehicle design matters. SAMOT did a before after study when Karstad got a new bus fleet. It is particularly important modernity, freshness and its centers for convenience. Services that bus TV and Internet amplifies the positive impression. The most BRT similar traffic solution, Malmo Express, estimated slightly lower.

Approach and implementation

Stakeholders have collaborated in the project that contains; 3-5 researchers (KTH, CTH, Samot KAU), Karlstadsbuss and Scania Bus. Transport Administration has followed the project and participated in the distance. Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) has made initial observational studies on major bus stops in Stockholm and Malmö. Images have also been used, from the Internet, your own collections and BRT study. To see and experience the traffic in real conditions has been important. Project meetings have been held at Karlstadsbuss, KTH and Scania.
