Important results from the project
The project was intended to show the ability to produce load-bearing components, fatigue loaded by semisolid casting to replace cast iron components but also details made of aluminium in order to achieve these goals, the project was divided into four main parts: initial development of existing materials and processes develop materials data as construction material for the design of the fatigue loaded components development of demonstrator for verification of fatigue performance the development of a platform for cost-efficient industrialization.
Expected long term effects
Basic development of the existing materials and processes with respect to process stability and semisolid alloys feeding behaviour to achieve pore free Lab scale and scientific work has been carried out and reported. Further scientific reports for improvement of feeding and fatigue properties are under processing. Engineering design data for 10 and 20 mm thick parts for static and dynamic loads. Demonstrators in T5 permits are in production while the T6 is the current component is better
Approach and implementation
The implementation was done in 7 work packages with Volvo GTT as the primary work management. Material and process data were summarised and processes have been streamlined. Fatigue testing has been done on lab-scale samples and full-scale demonstrators. Reporting and dissemination have been in collusion. A final report for dissemination within the project team is also prepared. The wider the spread comes in a series of publications from the JTH. A one day Rheocasting seminar is under planning. The project has led to a high degree of industrialisation of the results
