Important results from the project
Extensive lab evaluation at Luleå Tekniska Universitet, of nanomaterials in various cement binders has generated exciting results. We developed nanomaterials for optimized effects in cement and produced materials in quantities for full-scale casting. We have placed great emphasis on building networks to reach out with our technology for sustainable concrete. We have identified partners and trial surfaces for installation and field evaluation of cast products in infrastructure projects.
Expected long term effects
We believe that nanotechnology developed in the project will contribute to speeding up the development and commercialization of ultra-low-CO2 concrete based on recycled material from European industry. The effects are reduced energy consumption, reduced carbon dioxide emissions and developing alternatives to Portland cement.
Approach and implementation
The project began at LTU by evaluating nanomaterials in different cement binders. The results will now be applied at full scale by casting wear-resistant concrete products for installation in traffic. For technical reasons, we chose to evaluate speed bumps instead of bus stops. This also mean we work with new partners. Castings are delayed but we expect to carry out the castings shortly.
