With the call, we want to support Swedish development of advanced and innovative solutions in artificial intelligence (AI). The purpose is to strengthen Sweden´s capacity and ability to innovate in the area. We are looking for well-defined projects that are aiming for high potential and state of the art solutions. The call is an initiative within our program for artificial intelligence, which is part of Vinnova´s priority area Digital transformation.

The call is aimed at consortia with at least two participants where companies or the public sector must be needs owners. Universities, university colleges, research institutes and other relevant organizations can participate.
The projects must reach a minimum of level 4 and a maximum of level 7 on the TRL scale (Technology Readiness Level). We can therefore finance project in the early stages of technology development as well as project that reach further towards implementation and commercialization.
The call is open to a wide range of different project with varying technical maturity and with different orientations in terms of technology and application areas. However, the solution of an AI-related problem needs to be at the center of the project and not just a limited part of the work. The fact that there are systems and operational environments that are mature enough to take advantage of the technology that is being developed is positive for the project's potential.
AI is a transformative technology whose full potential sometimes requires new business logic and new ways of collaborating in order for it to be realized, for example within an industry or a value chain. We therefore like to see collaborations between established companies that want to solve common needs and challenges within AI in order to thereby increase their competitiveness and reach new growth opportunities.
The projects can be a continuation of Swedish AI research that is ready to take a step closer to commercialization in collaboration with one or more committed need owners. We would like to see strong Swedish AI startups as part of the projects. The projects can also be part of a larger innovation collaboration with, for example, foreign actors where Vinnova finances the Swedish part.
Common to the project we are looking for is that they need to have a high innovative height. They also need to have a large and clearly detectable potential. We expect that solid analyzes of the solution's usefulness, uniqueness, competitiveness and potential form the basis for proposal. The projects that are financed also need to demonstrate a credible ability and plan regarding how the project results are taken further towards use or commercialization.
The applications are judged in competition with each other. For the call, Vinnova will hire external evaluator with high expertise in AI, relevant domains and application areas as well as commercialization. The higher the amount and grant level applied for, the greater eligibility requirements will be placed on the project's potential and risk management. The duration of the projects can be between 12 and 36 months.

To apply for funding, you need to log in and complete an application form in our eServices portal. The application form contains questions about your project, the participants taking part in the project and your budget.

Please keep in mind that it takes time to complete an application. Filling in the templates can take several days, since they're based on analyses you need to do. Therefore, start the application well in advance. You can start filling in your details, then save and continue at a later time.
When you've completed your application, please mark it as done ("klar"). You can unlock and make changes to your application at any time until the call closes. If you unlock your application, you must mark it as done ("klarmarkera") if you want the application registered when the call closes.
Once your proposal registered, we will email a confirmation to the person in charge of the user account and to the project manager and company signatory. This may take a few hours after the call is closed. If you have not received a confirmation within 24 hours after the call has closed, get in touch with us.
When the call is closed, you can not change or fill in any new information. Then you can only complete your proposal if we ask for it.
Applications submitted to us become public documents. But we do not disclose information about the business, inventions or research results if it can be assumed that someone is suffering financial damage if the information is shown.
This means that we must release the documents if someone requests them. However, we keep confidential the information that we believe could cause financial damage if it is disclosed.
