Purpose and goal

Important goal of the project was to promote collaboration with universities by spending more time in the academic research environment and intensifying my activities in basic research. These were well met, which for instance led to invited lectures at two research workshops taking place during 2016 at the Department of Mathematics of Stockholm University. However, the goal of training and mentoring students could not be achieved to the same degree, since this would have required a longer perspective of the exchange.

Expected results and effects

Discussions have been held and collaborations been established with university researchers from KTH, Växjö and Lund. The focus of these collaborations is on electromagnetic modeling, especially of power system components, in particular power transformers. These activities have led to two invited talks that I held in research workshops during 2016. In addition, two scientific papers about modeling of transformer windings are in preparation, aimed at improvements a) of design rules for a secure system interoperability, and b) of procedures for the diagnosis of winding damages.

Planned approach and implementation

As planned I was present at KTH about one day a week during most of 2016 to participate in discussions with students and seniors, seminar presentations mm. The rest of the project time was used to prepare my visits. This arrangement facilitated carrying out industrial projects for my employer and to fulfill family obligations, in parallel to the exchange. However, it was difficult to teach or supervise students in an effective manner. This part certainly would have benefited from a more continuous availability on my side.
