Important results from the project
The project dealt with an inquiry into generative AI & sound generation to explore potential tools and implications for creative professionals and in educational settings. We were also able to create a set of informative workshops that demonstrate diverse perspectives on AI music generation including responsible and reflective approaches, gaining support from generative models in the process. The main goal of forming a lasting collaboration between Gaudl and Hoover was successfully met.
Expected long term effects
The expected effects are to deepen and maintain the collaboration with Hoover but also extending the network more broadly internally to apply for project funding. In addition the dissemination of the workshops into academic articles as well as the release of the workshops into a public space will be able to inform creative practitioners on the responsible and ethical usage of generative tools considering topics such as computational costs, ownership and more frugal approaches to technology.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out over a 11month period with multiple visits of Hoover to GU. During those visits the team engaged with literature as well as engaging with key technology & tools in computational music and generative AI. Secondly a set of creative workshops was designed and piloted with GU students over 2 teaching periods. The rapid evolution of generative AI proofed challenging as well as the cost for access to tools and services especially considering dissemination with society.
