Purpose and goal

Smart Urban Traffic Zones are seen as a powerful tool to meet a number of challenges connected to increased urbanization, strict environmental goals and road safety goals. The objective for this initial phase was to define smart urban traffic zones and to identify further steps for development by utilising actors found to have a need and interest of such zones. This to work towards a sustainable implementation of the solution. Throughout, this has been performed from a system perspective together with developers to end-users.

Expected results and effects

The concept of smart urban traffic zones has been defined, a consortium has been established, a project idea for a continued collaboration project has been created and work has started on developing a project plan, work packages and activities. Effects seen from the initial phase is that several important challenges in creating and implementing smart zones have been identified. These have been crucial in creating the proposed project idea which will be presented in the step 2 application.

Planned approach and implementation

During the course of the initial phase an external analysis, a needs analysis and a market analysis was performed. This through e.g. workshops and meetings held during the autumn of 2019 with actors identified as having a need for smart urban traffic zones. Cross-talk has been performed with other similar projects such as Nordic Way, GeoSum and Smarta Gator to identify similarities and possible collaborations going forward. Furthermore, a workshop on gender equality was also conducted in which both the project idea, the consortium and the work packages were analyzed.
