Important results from the project
The goal of the Research with Fair Principles project was to make knowledge more accessible, open and connected. The initial target audience was academics. We conducted 100+ problem interviews which revealed the problems academics faced were similar to those in other fields. So we built a visual note taking tool that helps knowledge workers of all types to get crystal clear in their thinking, write creatively and share their findings easily. They can see the high-level overview of their ideas and identify meaningful connections that improve the quality and speed of their output.
Expected long term effects
We’ve released the first version of Scrintal in early December. We onboard 10-25 people every week. In the meantime, our waitlist has surpassed 13.000 people who are interested in using Scrintal. The unique value Scrintal offers is the ability to see the higher-level overview of ones’ thoughts at a glance in one place. This will help knowledge workers achieve mental clarity, see connections between their thoughts that they haven’t seen before and enhance their creativity through visual thinking. This will improve the quality of shared knowledge and increase the speed of publication.
Approach and implementation
We’ve completed phases 0 and 1 of the original project which comprised developing the functionality to import and connect any types of files to Scrintal. People can now work with text, videos, PDF, tweets, images and other types of files. As mentioned in the interim report, based on the feedback we received from our early users, we decided to de-prioritise the implementation of a machine learning capability at this stage. We focused on building a solid foundation on which other features can be built. We’ll focus on exporting, publishing and collaboration functions in the next phase.
