Important results from the project

The project met its main objectives and resulted in proposals for business models for a more cost-effective collection and management of used fishing gear. The proposals are based on a mapping of users, producers and material flows. The project also contributed to engaging more actors, which has strengthened collaboration and created the conditions for continued development of the area, as well as to developing a joint action plan for the collection and recycling of used fishing gear.

Expected long term effects

The long-term effects are expected to be that a larger proportion of used fishing gear is collected and recycled instead of being incinerated or left in nature. The results can contribute to more economically sustainable activities for Sotenäs marine recycling center and Fiskekretsen through more efficient management and better resource utilization. This can contribute to lower costs for the members and customers who use the services for collection and management of used fishing gear.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented through regular project meetings. Each work package worked on its deliverables and interim goals. Through workshops, participants and external actors were brought together to contribute knowledge and perspectives. The work included data collection and analysis for further recommendations on business models and an action plan for a sustainable collection and management of used fishing gear.
