Purpose and goal
The EU´s new GSR law requires all new cars to be equipped with a driver monitoring system (DMS) from July 2026, creating a rapidly growing market. Meanwhile, society´s eligibility requirements on privacy are increasing. The project´s objective is to develop a radar-based DMS that enables reliable monitoring of fatigue and attention, without collecting sensitive data. The solution is cost-effective, robust to light variations and easy to integrate, making it attractive for future mobility.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to result in an integrity-preserving, radar-based DMS that meets GSR requirements and improves road safety. The solution enables reliable monitoring of driver condition without sensitive data collection, promoting broad acceptance. The effect will be fewer accidents, increased inclusion in transport systems and strengthened Swedish innovation in mobility and AI.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is being implemented in three parts: 1) development and testing of a radar-based DMS prototype, 2) verification of function and integrity in simulated and real-world driving environments, and 3) preparation for market introduction. The work is carried out in close collaboration between technical, business and user expertise, with clear milestones for performance, data security and GSR adaptation.
