Project duration June 2018 - December 2019
Status Completed
Venture Innovative Startups

Purpose and goal

The goal has been to enable management of large amounts of soil with optimal amount of microorganisms, make soil optimized for bio-remediation and lower the value of PAH so that waste is classified as non-hazardous waste. We have demonstrated a significant reduction, but have not fully achieved the goal of classifying waste as non-hazardous. However, can achieve this goal with a longer treatment time and a controlled environment for temperature and moisture. Another goal was not to create OxyPAH through process and we have achieved this. Tests done have not shown any formation of OxyPAH.

Expected results and effects

We have been able to demonstrate a significant reduction in PAH. The expected effect has been achieved. With longer treatment period we expect a reduction to non-hazardous of waste. A controlled environment for temperature and moisture is anticipated to shorten the treatment period to achieve non-hazardous levels.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was about bio-remediation of PAH contaminated soil and sediment and validating the effect of our product and bio-remediation process in a real environment together with the customer. The project included preparing the soil for remediation and then validating the bio-remediation process. We have also looked at future business models, investigated market conditions, how to ensure quality and whether results were patentable.
