Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project has been met by presence and continuity, and thereby improved opportunities for collaborations in industry relevant applied and process-oriented research. All objectives of the project are fully met. The project has contributed to a stronger link between Umeå University and Umeå Energi AB through personal contacts, transfer of students, joint investigations, research projects, and education initiatives. The work has also led to a continuation project (SSF) and an innovation with the project leader as inventor.

Expected results and effects

The project leader present at the company, and the added value that masters students brought, contributed significantly to problem-solving knowledge building at both the University and at Umeå Energi AB. It has thus contributed to both corporate and community development, as well as enhanced quality and relevance of research and education at the university. In addition to the expected results, the project has also enabled an innovation (patent process initiated) and a granted continuation project.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out according to the initial plan with the project leader´s presence at Umeå Energi AB together with three graduate students who conducted practical and theoretical problem solving studies with Umeå Energi AB as the customer, and the project manager as university supervisor. The project manager has also conducted analyzes and supported the management at Umeå Energi AB in various process issues. Collaboration will continue in a similar form, as well as in an initiated innovation project.
