Important results from the project
The aim with the project was to investigate which factors that have the largest impact on the resistance spot weldability in adhesively bonded joints, and increase the knowledge regarding how the process should be optimized with respect to in-going materials- and adhesive properties. These aims were achieved, the results show how the welding process should be adjusted in order increase process robustness for advanced material combinations. This will in turn lead to increased use of advanced materials, decreased weight and increased product quality.
Expected long term effects
The results from the project are considered to have good possibilities for quick industrial implementation since the adjusted process parameters show increased weldability of advanced material combinations, and since the adjustments are designed in order to fit existing industrial equipment. However, further investigations and optimization of new, unique material combinations are needed in order to fully implement the results. Long term effects will be increased use of advanced materials and decrease component- and product weight.
Approach and implementation
Thorough investigations regarding which factors, properties and parameters are the most influential regarding resistance spot weldability of adhesively bonded joints were performed in the project. The results from these investigations have led to increased knowledge regarding how the welding process should be optimized with respect to the properties of ingoing materials and adhesives. Validation trials were performed in order to ensure the results of the proposed process adjustments. Demonstrators were also created to show the improved results.
