Important results from the project
1)50% faster self dessication: Results: 3 days vs 56 days in lab = >90% faster 2)50% lower CO2: Results in lab: 34% lower CO2, shows potential for 52% 3)Method for extended setting in lab and field test incl truck trial > 75 minutes. Our purpose is to develop a low carbon binder solution for applications in concrete construction. We have demonstrated success in several applications in the lab, including new applications outside of moisture free concrete. The field tests did not reach the most stringent requirement for dry concrete, but we are confident that we can reach 85% RH in the future.
Expected long term effects
We have demonstrated technical and environmental benefits from our binder solution, several of which can be used commercially already today. The demonstrated ability to transport and handle the concrete will enable the product to be used in ordinary applications. Another specific opportunity is prefabricated concrete, where the producer will benefit from our very high early strength development and low CO2. This has the possibility to drastically shorten cycle times. One requirement is to reach 20 MPa in 18 h. We achieved 30 MPa already after 6 hrs, in one of the field-tests.
Approach and implementation
Sub projects 1. Development lab 2. Performance test lab. 3. Field test and 4. Evaluation were completed according to plan. The planned execution method with several tests performed together with customers was very successful, especially in terms of building confidence for our team and products. Several new opportunities were discovered. The work regarding transport and handling of concrete was specifically completed by customer request and input. A movie is attached as illustration.
