Important results from the project
Over the past year we manufactured the imagiCharms, launched our own webshop and started to sell our product through Amazon and in Designtorget. Our sales grew from 24 imagiCharms in a month in July to 380 in December. We tested and developed 12 hours of learning content, redesigned our mobile application and launched the beta version of our webapp. User and customer feedback was central throughout the process: We had 91 customer/end user interviews (44 parents, 47 teen girls, 18 educators). Over the last 12 months 2000+ teens have created over 8000 coding projects in the imagiLabs app.
Expected long term effects
Our goal was to research, design and test features of stickiness for the imagiLabs app such as social features and learning content in order to drive long-term engagement. After launching our app and observing/measuring user engagement we understood that users who complete our programming quests (tutorials) are 3 times more likely to be retained after 4 weeks than users who don’t. Therefore we completely redesigned our app to make our learning quests a more central element and reduce the friction of starting consecutive tutorials by turning the experience into a gamified journey.
Approach and implementation
Just as described in our project plan, we employed a process starting with user and consumer research, followed by design, testing and implementation. However, compared to our project plan we have implemented multiple, shorter cycles. During the project implementation our team became familiar with the SCRUM methodology and started to work in bi-weekly sprints while following quarterly hypothesis testing with a method called Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
