Important results from the project
The goal of the project was to develop a graphene-based coating with increased conductivity, together with good corrosion protection and friction properties. We tested several concentrations of graphene in the deposition bath and different deposition parameters (temperature, time). We tested the effect of these parameters on the conductivity (bulk and surface), as well as corrosion and friction properties.
Expected long term effects
The project aimed at identifying the ideal deposition parameters to obtain the targeted conductivity, while maintaining good corrosion and friction properties. We were able to see how the presence of graphene in the coating influences the conductivity and find parameters to insure a reproducible process. Most of the results were obtained on stainless steel, more optimization is needed to broaden the range of substrate. The patent search identified/showed that the prerequisites are good to reach an approved patent.
Approach and implementation
We developed strong collaboration with the consultants involved in the project. We organized regular meetings where the partners, as well as relevant consultants were present. During these meetings, results were shared and discussed to find the best way to move forward in the project and allowed us to rapidly converge toward the best possible result.
