Purpose and goal
The goal is to develop a prototype for GNSS-free positioning using existing COTS ship radar as an alternative and independent system in a maritime context. The world situation has changed, and today´s global positioning technology based on GNSS can be disrupted, which can have major consequences for end users and infrastructure. The development and validation of an alternative positioning technology based on other underlying technologies is needed to reduce dependence on GNSS.
Expected effects and result
The project is expected to develop and commercialize a prototype for positioning based on ship radar. The intended product is integrated with existing radar systems and continuously calculates positioning estimates for the end user. Furthermore, in the long term, the project is expected to contribute to a more robust and secure navigation, with more alternatives and complementary technologies to GNSS. The result can also be used in other areas where positioning and navigation are central.
Planned approach and implementation
The project consists of four WPs: (1) Project Management and Documentation, (2) Software Development, (3) Design and Installation, and (4) Test and Verification. WP1 aims to create documentation and reports, as well as coordination for the project. WP2 implements the functions in the software to create the product solution. WP3 designs, constructs, and installs the product as hardware. WP4 aims to test the prototype in several stages to find errors and calibrate for optimal positioning.
