Important results from the project
The principal purpose was to make real-time tracking more reliable and cost efficient, by using voice technologies for transmitting GPS locations/customer data, with the objective to pave the way for enhanced traceability by knowing exactly where things are, where they’ve been, and how they’re performing when tracking location and asset data. The key fulfillment of the project was the following developed features in the prototype: API to a FMS A HW device with a MCU for bi-directional communication Algorithm integrated in the MCU to accomplish ‘dataless’ communication possible
Expected long term effects
Firstly, a prototype of the Global Connect platform is available as a final result. The predicted principal impact of the project was the very positive POC to transmit short bi-directional messages from geographical moving IoT devices and sensors, without using mobile data. Finally, fulfillment of GlobalConnect / IoT devices is "feeding" both FMS and smart contracts with position and sensor data such as temperature, humidity, position, oxygen, etc. The impact and predicted outcome of this solution in the maritime transport sector allows the creation of decentralized platforms.
Approach and implementation
As a project methodology we´d used SCRUM .The container/rolltrailer was encoded with its own ID and specified pre-defined message was encoded by calls represented both longitude and latitude. The application board has a MAXM8Q GPS/GNSS receiver and a GSM module, enabling straightforward development of locationaware, global communicating application, supported opensource Arm Mbed development platform which provided libraries, hardware designs and tools for prototyping.Daily analysis were fulfilled by comparing realtime locationdata, with Mobile data and dataless.
