Important results from the project
The C2C project successfully achieved its objectives by utilizing carbon-negative materials in construction. Through detailed engineering calculations, we demonstrated the technical feasibility of constructing load-bearing elements for single-family homes and small structures. This innovative solution not only addresses global carbon emissions but also offers social and financial benefits, including improved affordability and streamlined construction processes. C2C´s successful completion highlights a model for environmentally responsible practices.
Expected long term effects
The successful development of our building concept will have the following effects: 1. 50% Reduction in Project Delivery Time 2. 50% Reduction in Operations/Maintenance Costs 3. At least 30% Increase in Facility Comfort 4. 80% Less Construction Waste and Soil Pollution 5. 50% Reduction in Construction Work-Related Illness and Injuries
Approach and implementation
The project included a literature review with a focus on the properties of the OSE boards. The material compliance concerning structural and operational requirements was checked. It was concluded that special attention should be paid to the moisture and durability aspects through design and proper moisture protection. Detailed finite element models of the innovative sandwich panels for horizontal and vertical load-bearing elements were developed and studied. It was concluded that the structural performance and integrity of the structure were satisfactory according to Eurocode
