Important results from the project

Aquaculture is the world´s fastest growing food sector. Sweden is one of the countries with the least developed aquaculture. Virtually the whole of Africa is in the same statistical bottom group as Sweden. Sweden imports 90% of the farmed fish. Much like in Kenya. The company believes that container-based fish farming combined with vegetables can be a partial answer to how poorly developed regions can speed up their aquaculture. In rich countries and in the poor.

Expected long term effects

The project has strengthened the company´s cooperation with a number of parties within academia, technology companies and buyers. Four University students work with Fish in a box in focus for Master´s theses. The company fentered Business Swedens UN Tender Program with Fish in a box, linking the company to UN bodies such as WFP and FAO. Fish in a box is the center of a feasibility study for one of Sweden´s largest fishing companies with the objective of combining fishing, aquaculture, horticulture and agriculture. The system is also offered to Norway.

Approach and implementation

The company has operated intensive cultivation of clarias for 6 years and can, with Fish in a box transfer factory production to containers with growing safety. The interface with potential customer grow and we expect our first system in Sweden or abroad soon. We had more than 15 meetings with tech partners and over 30 meetings with customers from Scandinavia, Zambia, Kenya, Sydan, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda and with UN agencies. In addition, we have discussed Fish in a box with county administrative boards, municipalities, Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and others.
