Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was enabling a larger project to demonstrate additive manufacturing of large objects. By co-operation and knowledge transfer between Swerea IVF, the wood centre at Torsby municipality and a multitude of companies and actors related to the region, an application regarding "The Wood Region" has been submitted and granted by the European Regional Development Fund.
Expected long term effects
The Wood Region, a development centre for wood and fibrebased biocomposites has been established in Sysslebäck. The Wood Region consists of a makerspace for additive manufacturing, start-up activities and a material development laboratory.
Approach and implementation
The work started with a survey of the different kinds of applications the project was to be focusing on and later on produce 3D printed first prototype or conceptual model. When the application regarding "The Wood Region" had been granted by the European Regional Development Fund, the work continued with adapting and develop a industrial robot based cell for additive manufacturing to The Wood Regions requirements. The robot cell is estimated to be operational during spring 2018.
