Call Lead and organize for digital transformation 2021 step 1

Purpose and goal

The overall aim of the project was to develop knowledge about the factors/conditions required in an organization in order for it to be able to develop more successful digitally based service innovations. In the project a pre-study has been carried out with the two participating companies, in which the challenges they face in their development of digitally based service innovations have been identified. In addition, a complete proposal for Step 2 has been developed together with the companies.

Expected results and effects

Through the activities carried out in the project, challenges have been identified that companies face in their development of digitally based service innovations. The results of the project show that many of the challenges are related to the fact that the current organization does not work well for the development of digitally based service innovations, more cross-functionality and close collaboration with customers needed. But also the importance of developing current innovation and product development processes so that they can be used also for service development.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been a collaboration between Chalmers and the Center for Service Research at Karlstad University and has mainly been carried out through two workshops and some initial exploratory interviews with the two companies Ascom and PIAB. The purpose of these activities was to investigate where theses companies are today, how far they have come in their servitization process, and what challenges they face in the development of digitally based service innovations. These challenges are addressed in the project application for Step 2.
