Purpose and goal

Democratisation of Academic Content. The project was to evaluate the market need and build the technological infrastructure to reduce the workload of researchers and change the economic of publishing from hiding academic content to making research open, interoperable and available to everyone. SciFree, with the help of Vinnova, has secured a seat at the table to represent researchers in the changes from paywalled to open access globally.

Expected results and effects

SciFree, with the help from Vinnova, has built the process of semi-automation of the peer-review. We have created personalised profiles, with the help of ORCID membership to validate researchers workload through peer-reviewing and publishing. We continue to build partnerships and the technological infrastructure to make scientific dissemination serve the researchers and the public, from XML (Texture) to AI (AIIDA.se) recommendations, Academic publishing will be in line with the PLAN S, and Open Science.

Planned approach and implementation

Market Analysis Design: Interviews with 45+ researchers, companies, and publishers. Implementation: We collected the top priority items and built the tech to solve these problems. We have also been invited panelists at the SSP (May 2019). Empowerment Labs begin Aug 28 2019, in Linköping. MVP design: We worked with solutions architects and UX designers to build the infrastructure. Implementation: The webapp is available to test users and systems engineers for sanity checks. Demos are being shown to users and partner organisations, such as ORCID for full collaborations.
